Haag Performance recently caught up with Andrew Holifield, who won 1st Place ITA at the Spec Miata Festival Sonoma Raceway 7/2/17 . When asked about his love of racing and how it all started he had this to say:

“My love for racing started as a kid playing racing video games with my free time. As I got older the racing games got more and more realistic and eventually in 2006 I went to my first high performance driving event. The track day was run by Hooked on Driving, I drove Thunderhill in my street car, and it was a blast! I was hooked.

In 2007 my Dad decided to go to SCCA driver’s school to see what it was like. My brother and I crewed for him later that year at several races. The following year, 2008, my brother and I went to SCCA driver’s school ourselves and we’ve all been racing ever since! We’ve been sharing a Spec Miata (sometimes two) between the 3 of us drivers. On a given weekend whoever isn’t driving is typically crewing to help keep the car running or being on radios during the race.

I enjoy sprint racing several times a year as well as coaching with various track day groups. I try to drive Thunderhill, Laguna Seca, and Sonoma Raceway each at least once a year. In 2015,  I participated in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill for the first time as a driver and then again in 2016. My dad, brother, and I are currently building an NB SWpec Miata that we hope to have on track soon and are looking forward to many more years of racing!”

We are looking forward to seeing the new NB Spec Miata out on the track soon.  Keep up the good work Andrew!

Tupper Hull has campaigned his 1990 Spec Miata since 2005 and was the SCCA ITA Regional Champion in 2015 and 2016.  He placed second in the Spec Miata Toyo (SMT) championship in 2016.  Tupper was a mid-pack racer until he connected with Mike Haag and Haag Performance.  He not only benefited from the professional engineering provided by Mike, he was helped tremendously by the guidance and coaching Mike provided to help him become a better, faster driver.  Tupper currently shares shop space with Haag Performance Sacramento and helps out at the shop when he can.

We look forward to seeing Tupper out on the track!

Justin Casey, winner of  the 2016 NASA Northern California Championship, had this to say in a recent email to Mike:

” 2016 was a very long and challenging year. With persistent efforts between Mike Haag and I, we were able to develop a consistently reliable and powerful car.

As a result of our combined efforts, I was able to clinch the 2016 NASA Northern California regional championship for Spec Miata and I am very grateful for that.”

We are so proud of Justin for winning the 2016 NASA Northern California Championship!! Congratulations on a job well done Justin!

We are so proud of Kyle Loustaunau for winning the 2014 NASA West Spec Miata Championship and then winning the Mazda MX-5 Cup shootout. It has been a great ride helping with his racing the last few years.

Congratulations Kyle you are now Mazda’s poster boy!

It was a great start for Craig Evans this new 2012 racing season. Craig finished first both Saturday and Sunday at Infineon Raceway Sonoma racing NASA February 11 & 12. ITS Champion Wilson Powell / Photo by Chuck KoehlerThe end of the racing season means one thing: points are added up and champions are crowned. We’re excited to announce that two of our motors built by Mike Haag claimed season championships at the final 2010 San Francisco Region SCCA race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in October!   Driving a 1999 Mazda Miata sponsored by PacificSignaling.com, Wilson Powell from Danville, CA claimed the ITS title over thirteen other drivers with a 50-point margin at season end. The championship comes in his first season since converting to ITS specifications during the 2009 season!

Earning his first championship, Brian Ghidinelli from San Rafael, CA piloted his MotorsportReg.com/Team SafeRacer 1999 Mazda Miata to an 8th win in 13 races clinching the Spec Miata championship ahead of 78 other points earners in the San Francisco Region.

We here at Haag Performance are focused on building fast and reliable engines (and transmissions and differentials!) so our customers can focus on winning races.  Congratulations to Will and Brian on their consistency and great results!

Thanks to Chuck Koehler for the #77 photo.

Spec Miata #12 driver Brian Ghidinelli continues to showcase the power and torque of his 1999 Mazda Miata engine in San Francisco Region SCCA’s regional championship series.   Taking both checkered flags in Rounds 7 and 8 at Thunderhill Raceway in July and two of three race wins at Rounds 9 and 10 at Infineon Raceway, Ghidinelli headed into Rounds 11 and 12 at Thunderhill with lots of momentum.  Qualifying on pole for both races, a spin in race one saw a 6th place finish and an error-free race on Sunday brought home Ghidinelli’s 7th win of the 2010 season and a slim lead in the regional championship.

Next event is the double points season finale at Laguna Seca in October which will crown the 2010 Regional Champion.  Will it be a Haag Performance motor on the top step?  Wait and see…

Rounds five and six of the San Francisco Region SCCA regional championship were held this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Two Haag powered cars found their way to the top of the result sheet with wins in Spec Miata by Brian Ghidinelli driving the #12 MotorsportReg.comSafeRacer car and Super Touring Under by Wilson Powell driving the #77 PacificSignaling.com Mazda Miata. Ghidinelli also scored pole position for race six.  Both drivers also scored a podium finish with third in their respective classes for race five.

Full results are available on MyLaps.com for Round 5 and Round 6.

The next local event will be at Thunderhill Raceway June 24-26.
